Upon reflection, I find that when I use "neurotypical" in practice it tends to mean: This person lives in denial of their differences from [impossible] cultural expectations and/or doesn't work to better understand them.
... or as a derogatory when I'm feeling bitter and jealous of what they can do more easily than me...
*sigh* Another opportunity for personal growth. Super...
I've always felt resistance to using the term 'neurotypical' and this beautifully articulates why.
Also really appreciate your reflections on the non-linear nature of visionary practices. Coloniality demands step-by-step processes with measurable outcomes...that cages inspiration. I was trapped in that for a long time, and told myself I wasn't a creative person. But since embracing my neuroqueerness, I've started imagining futures that are emergent, chaotic and revolutionary, and it makes my soul sing 💛
Thank you for putting this together so well, i believe that youre on the right way to look crossculturally and even more answers to this can maybe be found in quantum physics. 🌸🫧 my next post will be about feminine science and quantum physics, it has connecting points to this.
Hi! Sorry if I missed it. But did you propose an alternative word to “nonbinary”? And “neurodivergent”? Would love to know. Admittedly I’m a busy mom and skimmed this.
Personally I use genderqueer to describe my own gender. I tend to just say AuDHD when I'm talking about the ways my neurology is nonconforming. I think it is very context dependent though. How I talk about nonconformity depends on *why* I'm talking about nonconformity, if that makes sense.
Totally makes sense! I have veered away from using adhd sometimes because I personally don’t think of it as a “deficit” “disorder”, though it certainly is in the context of our uncaring world

Wow this is amazing! Love that you quote Tyson Yunkaporta. He has two more books that are sort-of sequels to Sand Talk
Brilliant! Just brilliant. Much gratitude to both BJ and Marta for this.

I also self-describe as (neuro+gender) queer frequently :)
This clearly puts into words thing I’ve been thinking and feeling. Wow, really well written, thoughtful and affirming article. I love this.

So much to contemplate Thankyou. I have felt uncomfortable using the term neurotypical. This has helped me clarify why.
